About Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale is a relaxed, waterfront city in South Florida, known for its beaches, boating canals and easy access from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The airport sits just a few miles from the coast, making it an ideal gateway for short stays, pre‑cruise nights and layovers.
From FLL, visitors can reach Fort Lauderdale Beach in a short drive, where long stretches of sand, palm-lined promenades and clear Atlantic waters create a classic Florida setting. The beachfront offers hotels for every budget, open‑air cafés and water activities such as swimming, paddleboarding and boating. Nearby Las Olas Boulevard is the city’s main artery for dining, shopping and nightlife, with art galleries, boutiques and restaurants that stay lively into the evening.
The wider “Greater Fort Lauderdale” area offers easy access to nature and wildlife without long transfers from the airport. Airboat tours into the Everglades give travellers the chance to see alligators, birds and unique wetlands landscapes on half‑day trips that fit between flights. State parks and nature centers around the Intracoastal Waterway and coastal mangroves provide walking trails, kayak rentals and quiet spots to unwind away from the terminal.
Cruise passengers benefit from the airport’s proximity to Port Everglades, one of the world’s busiest cruise ports. A short taxi or shuttle ride connects FLL with cruise terminals, making Fort Lauderdale a convenient starting point for Caribbean itineraries. Many hotels near the airport and port offer shuttle services and cruise‑and‑stay packages tailored to these travellers.
For shorter visits or day stops, the compact layout of the area helps you make the most of limited time. Rideshares, taxis, hotel shuttles and local buses connect the terminals with beaches, shopping districts and entertainment venues in 15–25 minutes. Whether you are on a brief layover, a beach holiday or beginning a cruise, Fort Lauderdale and its surroundings are easy to explore directly from the airport, combining sunshine, coastal lifestyle and practical connections.
