Transfers Between Terminals at Fort Lauderdale Airport (FLL)
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) has four terminals (1, 2, 3 and 4) that are not fully connected airside, meaning that moving between them depends on whether you are before or after security.
Landside transfers (before security)
All terminals are connected by a free airport shuttle bus service that runs frequently:
- Operates 24/7
- Stops outside each terminal (ground transportation level)
- Average waiting time: 5–10 minutes
- Transfer time between terminals: 10–15 minutes
This is the main option if you need to change terminals before check-in.
Walking between terminals
Some terminals are located relatively close to each other:
- Terminal 2 and Terminal 3: Short walking distance
- Terminal 1 and Terminal 4: Farther apart (walking not recommended)
Walking is only practical between adjacent terminals.
Airside connections (after security)
Unlike some major airports, FLL has limited airside connections:
- You generally cannot move freely between terminals after security
- If transferring terminals, you must:
- Exit security
- Take the shuttle
- Pass security again
Allow extra time if your connection requires changing terminals.
Tips for travelers
- Always check your terminal before arriving
- Allow at least 45–60 minutes for terminal changes
- Confirm connection details with your airline
- Terminals 1 and 4 are usually the busiest
